Structural Leaks

Minor leaks shouldn't be ignored because they can change into major problems later.  The steel reinforcement rods will corrode and weaken causing the concrete structure of the pool to crack even more.  This could even lead to a complete demolition and rebuild of your swimming pool so don't delay this work.

Rust marks on the swimming pool tiles are due to the steel reinforcement rods and wires not being covered over properly.  Small patches of rust can be repaired, but on larger areas or if there a lot of patches of rust the options are to remove the tiles, install new steel reinforcement rods into the shell and re-gunite over.  This means the coronation, the sumps, skimmers, return line fitting and lights would have to be changed.  The other option is to completely demolish and rebuild the swimming pool.  If the pool is above ground and in a very poor state it could be dangerous if the pool is still full of water.  Be careful and make sure your swimming pool is covered on your house insurance.

In most cases minor work can be carried out without dumping the water.  We have specialized tanks that store water.

Invisible Leaks

  1. If there are no visible signs of cracking the only way out is to remove all the tiles.  We are usually able to store the water in our specialized storage tanks, but they can only be used on hard standing and level land.  We can make up levels by placing staging, not only does this save you money but also stops you from breaking the Law.  It´s totally forbidden to dump water on to roads, the fine for this can be as much as €1,000 and if it causes any damage to neighbouring land or property it will be at your cost.  No insurance company will pay out for this type of damage, they regard it as deliberate damage.

Structural repair work.

  1. First we repair the structural fault by using a grinder to widen the crack and create a V shape groove and then clean the cracks.  Next we fill the the cracks with an elastic filler.  Then we apply two coats of elastic membrane sealant over all the pool using a fabric material over the structural faults.  Then we skim out the complete pool ready for tiling.  The pool is then tiled and cleaned.

Re-grouting.

  1. First we use an acid wash to clean the whole pool. We then steam clean & power wash to remove any under lying algae or any loose grout. We then apply a special laytex sealant between the gaps of the mosaics. This has two effects, it helps to bond the new grout to the structure and it also bonds any tiles that maybe becoming lose. Finally we apply the waterproof grout and clean the pool to a good standard.

Re-tiling pools

  1. We don´t recommend re-tiling over existing tiles.  We´ve seen this done so many times in the past and in many cases we have seen the old tiles come away from the wall area and of course it takes the new tile with them.  Applying new tiles over old ones can lead to you paying for the job twice.

Pool Safety

    1. Recommendation on safety for new and renovated pools.  All pools over 25m2 of water surface should have two skimmers installed. Not only is this safer but keeps the top of the water cleaner.  We also recommend the installation of two main drain sumps as this reduces the suction.  It´s a little known fact that people with long hair can get caught up in them and drown.

    Save Money

    1. The back wash waste pipe from the selector valve should be installed into a soak away.  Don´t let the waste water flow into a road, the first fine for this is €350 and can go up each time.
